Inspiring Story of the Week: Pride Matters

After dealing in drugs and serving a short prison term, Rodney landed a job cleaning up the debris around the Potamac River. He didn’t think much of it at first, except that he loved being outdoors. But once he noticed that bald eagles and other wildlife gradually were returning to the river, Rodney had found his home. That connection with nature gave him a sense of purpose. He wanted to share the joy of nature with others, and thought, “What better way then to start a program for young people.” But when he sought funding for such a program, he was shocked when told they would only support a program for adjudicated youth. “Why wait until a teen is is trouble with the law?” he thought. “Why not offer them some focus and direction before they get in trouble?” And that’s how RodnyRaptors began.

This is a story of second chances . . . for injured birds of prey, teenage dropouts and Rodney himself.
