Inspiring story of the week: My Dog Jami

This heartwarming story is likely to inspire all dog lovers and those with a generous heart.
For many years Alice worked for a counseling center on Long Island, NY. Her favorite day of the week was Thursday, when she helped co-ordinate a program for a wonderful group of disabled adults. At one of those meetings a guest speaker talked about Canine Companions. CC trained service dogs to assist physically disabled adults, children and kids on the autism spectrum.
Alice learned that she could contribute to CC by raising a puppy for their organization. She loved her black Labrador retriever Maggie and welcomed the opportunity to have another dog in her life, even though it wouldn’t be hers for keeps. She would have to turn in the pup in a little over a year for specialized training.
Soon she was approved and found herself at the CC Northeast headquarters in Farmingdale, New York. Jami, an eight week old part Lab part Golden beauty came home with her that day.
It didn’t take long for Alice to discover that Jami was so much more than a pretty black dog with fluffy fur and a wagging tail.
