Wohane – A Voice for the Voicless by Jonny Stern
With a deep curiosity for the world, a hunger for travel and a passion to meet people from diverse cultures, Jonny set off with camera in hand to investigate Ethiopia, a country he admittedly knew nothing about. Settling in a small village about two hours from the nation’s bustling capital, at first he was uncertain what project to undertake. The countryside was beautiful, but Jonny couldn’t shake the feeling that there was a larger story here.
And then he began to hear rumbling of unspeakable things happening in Tigray, the northernmost region of Ethiopia. Although every travel source he approached, had it marked a “Do not enter zone”, Jonny could not rest until he was able to investigate. What he uncovered was horrifying – a deliberate campaign of violence against its innocent civilians. And that was Jonny’s inspiration for his film, Wohane, a Voice for the Voiceless.
