This is the inspiring story of a teacher who wouldn’t give up.
Jane, like most first year teachers, was filled with energy on her first day of teaching. Her childhood dream of becoming a second-grade teacher was about to come true. By using the skills she had learned in her methods classes and showing her students love and compassion, what could possibly go wrong? She soon had her answer and his name was Sammy.

Jane’s inspiring story begins with challenges
All his first-grade teacher said was, “I’m glad I don’t have to put up with him anymore.”
Sammy wasn’t interested in anything that had to do with learning. He spent his time in the classroom annoying his classmates: grabbing their pencils, knocking papers off their desks, and pulling their hair. As soon as someone would complained, he would smile and go back to his doodling. On the playground, he was like a bolt of lightning striking out at everyone in his path. If the children saw him coming, they would scatter in all directions to avoid him and the chaos he was about to create.
When Jane contacted his family, she soon learned that they gave him little encouragement to do better. In fact they told her it was her job to teach him, not theirs. Furthermore they told her that Sammy didn’t need an education because eventually he was going to work on the farm.
The other teachers told Jane not to waste her time with him, but she was determined to prove them wrong. She wanted a way to give Sammy the special attention he craved, but also knew that her job was to teach him academic skills. At first she had no idea where to begin. She was well aware that whatever she came up with, she needed to make him think it was his idea.

Then a lightbulb went off. The word experiment was like a magic bullet to all her students, and as Jane had hoped, Sammy was just as enthusiastic. He was thrilled when Jane chose him.
