Chocolates Filled With Music is a humorous story that begins with a gift of dark chocolates.
When Valentine’s Day arrives, Mort’s wife presents him with a special gift, a heart shaped box filled with dark chocolates. The gift brings an immediate smile to Mort’s face because he just loves dark chocolate. After a kiss, he says, “Thanks hon, this is the perfect gift for an unrepentant chocoholic.” His wife can’t wait so she urges him to open the box and taste a chocolate.
Mort doesn’t need much encouragement, so he tears off the plastic covering. But once he lifts the cover off the box, to his surprise, music fills the air. The voices of Sonny and Cher echo across the room, singing their signature song, I Got You Babe. While Mort sings along, he thinks to himself, WOW! This is creativity in action, the merger of two traditional holiday themes, music and candy, in one gift.
He places the musical chocolate box on the kitchen’s granite countertop, right next to the coffee maker. Again, he pulls open the box and grabs a candy. He starts to sing once more, and he sure can belt out those memorable lyrics!

Mort Laitner is a short story writer, a teacher and an attorney, who recently published his first memoir titled,”A Hebraic Obsession”. However he has thirteen other published books to his credit. Six of those books are published as part of the award winning series titled “Healthy Stories”. Mort served as editor-in-chief to that series, but has also published other books including An Analytical Approach for the Preparation of the Louisiana Bar Examination and four scientific and educational publications.
In the past Mort has taught at the University of Miami, School of Medicine, Saint Thomas University and Miami-Dade College, but presently teaches Law and Ethics at the Masters Level at Barry University and Florida International University. For thirty-five years he practiced public health law with the Miami-Dade County Health Department. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the South Florida Writers Association where he remains in charge of their annual Mango Writers Conference.
Mort has received coverage on CBS Nightly News, Life Magazine, Money Magazine and the New York Times. He has lectured throughout the states of Florida and Georgia and accepts speaking engagements on his memoir and his life lessons.
