When a strong willed teenager and a loving but conventional Dad clash, life often ends in one confrontation after another. Jenna and her father couldn’t seem to agree on much. Arguments ensued over everything from hair styles to life styles, making visits home become less and less frequent. And yet, despite all their bickering, an abiding love lay beneath the surface.
Their father/daughter relationship became particularly strained when Jenna introduced her dad to Gene. her father found his long blond hand and freewheeling lifestyle unimpressive. When he insisted that Jenna reconsider her plans to leave college and marry Gene, they stopped speaking for over a year.
Married life was busy for Jena and Gene. they had four children together and created a thriving fishing bait business in a resort area near where they lived. Thankfully, her dad grew to love and respect Gene, but with his droll sense of humor, he continued to tease Gene about their unconventional lifestyle.
Jenna reflects on her growing up years and the father/daughter bond that couldn’t be broken. And then, one serendipitous moment brought beautiful closure to this father/daughter relationship. After her father’s death, while cleaning out a junk drawer, a folded paper fell onto her lap. It was a long forgotten letter from her dad, telling her all the things she had yearned to hear from his lips. Yes, despite the void she felt in no longer having him with her to celebrate father’s day, that letter brought her peace.
Many call moments like these synchronicity at its best.
